Route 1

Norwich to Thorpe St Andrew (return trip)

Our shortest trip takes you along the River Wensum past Quayside, Cow Tower, Norwich cathedral and the old Colman’s mustard factory. You will soon escape the city and reach some glorious countryside as well as Whitlingham Broad. As you approach the beautiful village of Thorpe St Andrew you will pass some amazing houses and find a choice of riverside pubs where you can stop for lunch or a drink. You can tie your canoes up at the village green or the pubs and leave them in the water while you take a well earned rest. After a relaxing and refreshing break, turn the canoes around and paddle back to Norwich. It will take roughly 1hr and 20/30 mins to paddle to Thorpe St Andrew.

Pub Stops* - both serve food and are a great choice for lunch:

  • The Town House
  • The River Garden
  • Rushcutters Arms

If you're bringing a picnic, there are nice places to sit along the river which we can show you on the map before you start!

Time: Return trip to Norwich, 4-5 hours. Roughly 2.5-3 hours canoeing plus time to stop in Thorpe St Andrew for a drink, lunch or picnic. It is advisable to pre-book lunch to ensure you have enough time - the pubs can get very busy on weekends and even on weekdays during summer.
Cost: £22/person
